October 29, 2026

  • Long serving sizes now fit inside the nutrition database label header.

New

Improved

  • Every free tool now works in all the languages the site is translated into, and the translated tool pages list every tool.

October 13, 2026: corrections

An accuracy review of the free tools' reference pages, run while translating them, found mistakes in our English copy and one in a calculation. Each is listed with what it said and what is correct. All are fixed on every page and in every language where the copy appears.

  • Unit Converter, vitamin E: converted synthetic (dl-alpha-tocopherol) vitamin E at 0.9 mg per IU. The correct factor is 0.45 mg per IU (natural d-alpha-tocopherol is 0.67 mg per IU, which was already right). Any synthetic vitamin E value converted with the tool before this date should be recalculated.
  • Claim Validator, %DV Calculator and Nutrient Ranking: called the 21 CFR 101.13(h) levels "disqualifying levels". They are disclosure levels: a food above them can still carry a nutrient content claim, but the claim must be accompanied by a disclosure statement such as "See nutrition information for fat content". The levels that bar a health claim outright are the disqualifying levels in 21 CFR 101.14(a)(4).
  • FDA Label Checklist: had the two US exemptions the wrong way round. The low-volume exemption is the one based on employees and units sold and claimed by filing an annual notice with FDA (21 CFR 101.9(j)(18)); the small-business exemption is based on annual sales and needs no notice (21 CFR 101.9(j)(1)).
  • FDA Label Checklist: said none of its answers removes an obligation. A requirement that does not apply by definition is the exception: a single-ingredient food needs no separate ingredient list.
  • RACC Lookup: used an 8 oz reference amount for a soft drink. The RACC is 12 fl oz (360 mL), so a 20 fl oz bottle is about 167% of it and is labeled as one serving, the whole bottle.
  • Recipe Scaler: said scaling a batch changes servings per container. Scaling changes the yield (how many packages you get); servings per container changes only when the package size changes, and the per-serving panel does not change at all.
  • Bucket Fill Calculator: its FAQ said the tool assumes a cylinder. It does no geometry: it multiplies the container volume you enter by the fill percentage and the density.
  • Mexico Warning Seals: said the caffeine and sweetener legends apply to products aimed at children. They apply whenever the product contains caffeine or non-caloric sweeteners, and they advise against consumption by children. The page also listed Ecuador among warning-seal countries; Ecuador uses a traffic-light system.
  • Net Weight / Yield: said a 15% moisture loss concentrates nutrients by 15%. It concentrates them by about 17.6% (1 ÷ 0.85).
  • Shelf Life Calculator: called a product with pH above 4.6 "a low-acid canned food or an acidified food". A shelf-stable canned product in that range is a low-acid canned food (21 CFR 113); an acidified food (21 CFR 114) is a low-acid food brought to pH 4.6 or below by adding acid.
  • Food Cost Calculator: told readers to divide by units sold where it means units actually yielded, and overstated the effect of a 12% cost understatement on a 40% margin: it cuts the real margin to about 32%.
  • Plastic Resin Safety: answered "No" to whether any of the plastics can take hot food. Polypropylene (5) is the usual material for microwave and hot-fill containers, within the conditions the supplier states for that item; PET (1), PS (6) and PVC (3) should not be used with hot food.
  • QR Code Generator: described the phone number required with a bioengineered-food digital-link disclosure as a text-message option. Under the USDA standard it is a number to call for more information; disclosure by text message is a separate option.
  • Nutri-Score Calculator: said the algorithm was revised in 2023. The update was adopted for foods in 2022 and for beverages in 2023.
  • FDA Label Checklist: said every US label must carry an ingredient list and a Nutrition Facts panel. The ingredient list is required where a food has more than one ingredient, and the Nutrition Facts panel unless an exemption applies.
  • Food Cost Calculator: described prime cost as labour plus overhead. Prime cost is food cost plus labour; overhead is not part of it.
  • %DV Calculator: cited only 21 CFR 101.9(c)(8)(iv) for the reference values; the macronutrient values are in 101.9(c)(9). It also said the disclosure applies when a food exceeds the levels for fat, saturated fat, cholesterol and sodium; exceeding any one of them triggers it. And it described the infant category as under twelve months; it is through twelve months.
  • UK Traffic Light Checker: said drinks use roughly half the food thresholds. That holds except for the low threshold for salt, which is the same for drinks as for food.
  • Nutri-Score Calculator: said the colour scale runs to red. Grade E is dark orange.
  • Food Comparison: listed twelve of the fourteen nutrients it compares; the list now names all fourteen, including saturated and trans fat separately.
  • Recipe Scaler: said cooking times change with mass but not with quantity. Cooking and cooling times depend on the depth and shape of the mass in the vessel, so they do not scale in proportion to the quantity.
  • Net Weight / Yield, FDA Label Checklist and PDP Type Size FAQ: an earlier version of this entry gave 21 CFR 101.105 as the net quantity section for food, and these pages were updated to match. The correct section is 21 CFR 101.7, with the type-size requirements in 101.7(i). All three pages now cite 101.7 in every language.
